Guerra Franco-Indiana - French and Indian war - Parte 6

Per oggi mi limiterò ad eseguire un veloce post per mostrarvi una piccolissima commissione che ho fatto per il buon Sinclair.
In realtà, più che una vera commissione, abbiamo fatto un semplice scambio tra alcuni modelli che non avrebbe mai utilizzato (chi non ne ha!!) in cambio della pittura di una squadra di 5 rangers della North Star per la Guerra Franco Indiana, Spero ne rimanga soddisfatto!! ;) .

For today I will just do a quick post to show you a small commission work that I did for good old Sinclair.
In fact, more than a real commission, we simply made a deal and traded between a few models that he would never use (who does not have a lot of those?!?!) in exchange for me painting a squad of five French and Indian War British rangers from North Star, I hope he will be pleased by the result! ;).

Ciao a tutti,
in attesa dell'ormai prossima Apocalisse Maya, ho pensato di mostrarvi l'ennesimo modello per il progetto Guerra Franco Indiana (Ho deciso che d'ora in poi lo chiamerò "Progetto FIW").
Prima di costruire degli schieramenti utilizzabili in gioco, era mia intenzione dipingere i modelli che avevo già pulito ed imbasettato che avevo utilizzato per il mio post di paragone di alcuni giorni fa.
Ho quindi dipinto un Ranger Britannico della North Star da affiancare al miliziano continentale del precendente post.

Hi to all,
while I'm waiting the forthcoming Mayan apocalypse, I thought I'd show you yet another model for the French and Indian project (I've decided that from now on I will call it "Progetto FIW").
Before to assemble some warparty that could be used in-game, my intention was to paint the models I had already cleaned and based that I used for my comparison post of a few days ago.
I then painted a North Star British Ranger to use with the continental militia of my previous post.

Eccoci per un brevissimo e fugace aggiornamento.
Ho appena completato il mio primo miliziano provinciale della Perry miniatures, direi che come colono armato possa andare più che bene...
Per la pittura ho cercato di tenerla molto marcata ed evidente in modo da rendere ben visibili i pezzi a distanza "da gioco", credo quindi di dipingere tutti i modelli successivi allo stesso modo evitanto di andare troppo nei dettagli.

Here we are with a quick update.
I've just completed my first Provincial militiaman from the Perry miniatures catalogue.
I've tried to paint him in a marked way with strong colour transitions to make it stand out more at tabletop distance. I think I will paint all the models of this project in a similar way without going too much into the details.

niente pittura quest'oggi.. Dovete sapere che una buona fetta del tempo che passo sulla rete cercando "pupazzetti", lo passo in realtà cercando buone immagini di comparazione fra modelli di varie ditte che mi permettano di confrontare effettivamente la vera scala dei pezzi... Parliamoci chiaramente, anche se una miniatura viene indicata come 28mm, questo non vuol dire assolutamente che sia compatibile con il 28mm di un'altro scultore/ditta.
Volendo iniziare in maniera seria il progetto "Guerra Franco-Indiana", avevo letto da varie parti che i modelli di 3 delle principali ditte con un corposo numero miniature in catalogo erano in realtà diversi in quanto a dimensioni..
Avendo ricevuto alcuni degli ordini di cui vi parlavo nel mio precedente post, ho avuto modo di notare che, effettivamente, vi è un'importante differenza, particolarmente tra i pezzi Conquest (ora venduti da Warlord Games) molto piccoli e quelli North Star molto più grandi.

no painting today.. You should know that a good portion of the time I spend on the net looking for "miniatures", I'm actually looking for good comparison pictures between models of different companies to allow me to actually compare the true scale of the models... As you all know, even if a miniature is advertised as 28mm, this absolutely does not mean that it is compatible with the 28mm from another sculptor/company.
Wanting to start in a serious way the "French and Indian War" project, I read from around the net that the models of 3 of the major companies with a substantial number of usable miniatures in catalog were actually different in size ..
Having received some of the orders I mentioned in my previous post, I have noticed that, indeed, there is an important difference in size, particularly between the models from Conquest (now sold by Warlord Games) very small, and the North Star ones.

Come potete vedere, la differenza è sostanziale anche se non lo è abbastanza da rendere inutilizzabile le tre ditte in contemporanea. 
A questo punto, mi sono messo a riflettere su come ridurre l'impatto visivo in modo da poter combinare i vari modelli nella stessa squadra ( Mi rendo conto che probabilmente mi creo io troppi problemi, infatti, nella realtà, le persone hanno altezze ben differenti).
La soluzione si è rivelata molto semplice, ho utilizzato delle rondelle di acciaio dello stesso diametro ma di spessore diverso.. Questo semplice espediente ha permesso di uniformare perfettamente i modelli della Perry con quelli della North Star. Per i vecchi pezzi della Foundry e della Conquest invece, ho dovuto aggiungere un ulteriore spessore utilizzando una vecchia carta telefonica.. Una volta uniformata la base con la materia verde, è bastato aggiungere normale sabbietta ed il gioco è fatto.

As you can see, the difference is substantial even if it is not enough to render unusable the three companies at the same time.
At this point, I started to think about how to reduce the visual impact in order to combine the different miniatures on the same squad (I know that it's probably me and others would probably not bother.. I know that in reality people have very different heights :P ).
The solution proved to be a very simple one, I used some steel washers of the same diameter but of different thickness.. This simple trick made ​​it possible to align perfectly the Perry models with those from North Star. For the old Foundry and Conquest miniatures instead, I had to add an extra layer under the model using a bit of an old phone card.. Once done that, I've used a little of Green Stuff on the base and added some sand and texture and it's all done.

Per ora è tutto, spero che questo breve "articoletto"  si possa rivelare utile anche a voi ed a tutti quelli interessati nel cimentarsi in questo interessantissimo periodo storico...

Alcuni mesi fa, mi ero cimentato nella pittura di un vecchio indiano della Foundry sottintendendo che non era mia intenzione cimentarmi in quell'interessantissimo periodo storico conosciuto come la "Guerra Franco-Indiana".... Beh che vi devo dire, mi sono fatto il regalo di natale ed ho ordinato una vagonata di pezzi della Perry, Conquest (tramite warlord games) e North Star...

at the end I've made the jump.... Some months ago I've painted a Foundry woodland indian   not wanting to venture in that really interesting historical period known as the "French and Indian war".... Well, what should I say, I've done myself a Christmas gift and I've ordered a bucketload of models from Perry, Conquest (through warlord games) and North Star...

Not stealthy enough....

Mentre sono in attesa dell'arrivo dei miei ordini, ho tirato fuori i vari modelli già in mio possesso che si potevano rivelare utili. Nel ciarpame ho quindi ritrovato una manciata di indiani non proprio in salute (tutti uguali) che erano uniti ad un vecchio ordine che feci su ebay svariati anni fa.. Sorvolando sul fatto che ho il fortissimo sospetto che fossero delle copie di bassa qualità (un rischio sempre presente su ebay purtroppo), ho deciso comunque di dipingerne uno al quale ho aggiunto un moschetto in plastica della Wargames Factory. Dopo un'oretta di lavoro questo è il risultato finale ottenuto.

While I'm waiting for my order, I've rummaged in my Lead mountain to see if I could find something useful. In my lead garbage I've found an handful of not-so-healty indians (all the same pose) I've purchased on ebay a long time ago.. Even if I strongly suspect that those were counterfeited (unfortunately an always present risk on ebay), I've decided to paint one and to give him a Wargames Factory musket. After one hour of work, that's what I've obtained.

Cercerò di modificare il prossimo che farò fornendolo di gambali indiani e mocassini, sarà un ottimo allenamento per la scultura.... Voi che ne dite?? ;)

Ciao a tutti,
già mi sembra di sentirvi... "E mò che c'entra la guerra franco indiana??" Infatti, non c'entra nulla! ;)
Stavo andando avanti con la mia squadra del caos di Blood bowl quando mi sono reso conto che non ho più spazio libero sulla mia scrivania, non ho fatto altro che completare una miniatura di Irochese che giaceva in attesa sulla mia paint station (praticamente aveva solo l'undercoat).
